The Brown Recluse (Loxosceles reclusa) is a poisonous spider common to the southern and central United States. As you may know, it’s somewhat infamous. If you believe the tall tales, the Brown Recluse is some kind of flesh-melting, human-hating demon spider. The spider’s reputation has grown enough that people tend to blame it for all kinds of mysterious skin irritations. We understand why these rumors started. Spiders are scary. Venomous spiders are really scary. Venomous spiders that could be in your home are… well, you get it. All that being said, however, we think the spider’s reputation is a little overblown. You shouldn’t feel like your life is in danger whenever you run across a brown spider. That’s why we want to teach you what we know about the Brown Recluse.
