Plunkett's Pest Control Supports Industry Research Through Pest Management Foundation Legacy Fund
At Plunkett's Pest Control, we believe the future of pest management depends on a strong commitment to science, innovation, and continuous improvement. That's why we're proud to support the Pest Management Foundation Legacy Fund with a $5,000 contribution as one of the fund's founding donors.
The Pest Management Foundation recently announced the launch of its Legacy Fund, a dedicated initiative designed to provide long-term funding for applied pest management research. Supported by a landmark $1 million commitment from the Gary W. Rollins Foundation, the Legacy Fund will help ensure critical industry research continues for years to come. Every dollar contributed to the fund is currently being matched dollar-for-dollar, maximizing the impact of donor support.
Plunkett's was honored to be recognized among the founding donors helping launch this important effort. Alongside other industry leaders, our contribution helps build a sustainable source of funding dedicated exclusively to research that benefits pest management professionals and the customers they serve.
Supporting Research That Benefits Customers
Research has long played a vital role in advancing pest management practices. From improving treatment effectiveness to developing more sustainable solutions, industry-funded research helps professionals stay ahead of evolving pest challenges while protecting public health, food supplies, homes, businesses, and property.
As part of its 2025-2026 research funding cycle, the Pest Management Foundation recently approved funding for three applied research projects totaling $55,000. These projects focus on practical challenges pest management professionals encounter every day, including:
Bed Bug Resistance and Biological Controls
Researchers at Virginia Tech will investigate whether repeated exposure to fungal biopesticides could lead to reduced susceptibility in bed bug populations over time. The findings will help guide best practices for the long-term use of biological pest management tools.
Improving German Cockroach Control in Structural Voids
Researchers at the University of Kentucky will evaluate the effectiveness of various treatment methods used in wall voids and other difficult-to-access areas where German cockroaches commonly harbor. The project aims to provide pest management professionals with science-based recommendations for more effective control strategies.
Long-Term Performance of Cockroach Baits
Researchers at the University of Florida will study the palatability and effectiveness of cockroach baits that have been aged for up to a decade. The results may provide valuable insight into whether bait products can serve as long-term preventative tools in certain situations.
Together, these projects address real-world challenges facing pest management professionals and help advance practical solutions that can improve service quality, effectiveness, and customer outcomes across the industry.
Investing in the Future of Pest Management
The Pest Management Foundation has supported industry research, education, and outreach for decades. Through scholarships, university partnerships, and applied research funding, the Foundation helps bridge the gap between scientific discovery and real-world pest management applications.
Our contribution to the Legacy Fund reflects Plunkett's ongoing commitment to supporting the advancement of the pest management profession. By investing in research today, we're helping ensure that future pest management solutions remain effective, innovative, and grounded in science.
We are grateful to the Pest Management Foundation for its leadership and for the researchers whose work continues to strengthen our industry.
