With the busy summer season coming to an end and the kids heading back to school, it is almost time to welcome the fall season. But just as a warning to residents in the Midwest, with the onset of fall comes an increased chance of stink bug activity in homes and businesses. Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs will be seeking out shelter from the colder weather and are likely to be a nuisance for homeowners. For that reason, Plunkett’s Pest Control is ready to assist when the stink bugs start heading inside this fall. Thankfully, stink bugs do not pose a threat to the health and safety of residents but they do congregate in large numbers which can create a challenge for homeowners when they have invaded the home. And as their name suggests, they do release an odor that can be very obvious and far from pleasant (described as rotting vegetables) if they are squished or vacuumed up. The best way to avoid the stink of stink bugs is to prevent them from getting inside in the first place.
- Seal any cracks or holes in the foundation of the home.
- Seal off windows and doors so there are no cracks (this will also help as the air gets colder!)
- Be sure that open windows have well intact screens.
